To enter the world of tugboats, you have to start as a deckhand. To be a deckhand, employers require that you be an AB. To get an AB ticket, you need sea time. To get the sea time, you need an AB ticket. To get an AB ticket, you need sea time. To get the sea time......................................
This is montonous. I never know what to tell people who want to start up here.

I have limited experience on tugs. I have worked thge ropes and the wires, pushed and pulled barges, switched alternators out on deisels, cooked , painted, and even driven boats out in open water with radar set. I am looking for a basic deckhand job . Can anybody steer me in the right direction?

My neighbor got his AB (Special), an STCW, and took a 100 ton master to boot. Vane said they weren't hiring.
