Hey Everyone,
It not easy finding forums like this. I think that it is a great idea and will prove to be a useful tool in terms of the industry being able to communicate with each other easier.
I’m 31 and work in a corporate environment. I hate it. 6x6 cube, fluorescent light frying my brain, stagnant air filing my lungs. I’m not a complainer and you’d never hear me boast about it out load, but enough is enough. It’s time for a change. I’m now looking to broaden my horizon by becoming a Merchant Mariner. It’s definitely a big step for me and I have thought of the countless pros and cons and my conclusion is simply to find a decent company who’d be willing to take on a newbie.

I started when I was your age. I was fresh out of college and everyone thought I would finally go do something proper, or some such career. Tugboats? 14 years later and still loving it. I saw you job post. Hang in there. remember. The insustry is hurting for people.

Unlike Corporate Deckhand, I knew early on a desk job would never work for me. Just sitting for more than an hour at this comp is getting me fidgety. However, I am in a similar fix. I'm frustrated and stalled in a railroad career and so utterly disgusted by some new policies my employer instituted that I, too, have decided enough is enough.
At 43, I've decided to start over. Got my TWIC and Z-card and am looking to join the right tugboat company. While I have no maritime experience, I learn quickly. Whoever takes a chance on me will not be disappointed. I am reliable, conscientous, mechanically inclined, unencumbered, and have the stamina of a tugboat.
