Hello from Jacksonville FL. I just joined this board. I am a professional freelance stock photographer and I recently decided to specialize in tug boat photos. Problem is, I am new to this industry and I don't know how to track down places where I can find them to photograph. If any of you experienced captains, ship mates or deckhands have any advice or suggestions, I would sure appreciate it. Preferably in the Jacksonville, FL (or surrounding areas) would be ideal. Thanks so much Ken McDougal Jr

Definitely get to Savannah. Moran and Cresent have regular runs up and down that river. You'll get working shots too. Might be worth a try to take a river boat tour with your camera.

If you ever come up to New York we have a group called the "Working Harbor Committee" workingharbor.com/ and they have "Hidden Harbor Tours" during late spring and summer. These hour-plus rides take you past tug yards...and of course, New York Harbor is always busy...You'll be able to snap lots of pics of tugs working and en route.

Just thought of another way to "cheat"...Think drawbridges...many are in populated areas, and if they don't have a pedestrian walkway, there might be another place along the shore to watch...Just get yourself a marine radio, and listen for tugs calling for a bridge opening...Voila, you have your photo subject..
